Queen Of The Week

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

Our Queen of the Week program is changing attitude !

Every week we will crown a new Queen to take the reign  and lead us through a week of fun.  But, instead of featuring one particular project,  the new Queen will be able to change this project as she sees fit.   So,  she has the choice to lead her kingdom into learning a new technique, sharing a fun tip, or even hosting a contest or challenge.   Her picture or avatar will be displayed for all to see on our home page.   She will be leading her kingdom from our forum so follow her over there to hear what she has to say.

Your humble servant,

Robin

Organizing 101: Week #3 Organizing your stuff.

Yes, we’re going to start actually organizing, not just dreaming about it. You first have to decide if you are going to take baby steps or jump all in. If you decide you can only take baby steps. You need to start with one of the problem areas that is on your list. Get a box and put all of your ribbon (or what ever is your #1 problem area) in it. ALL OF IT, EVERY LAST PIECE.  Now write on the box what is in there. And put it aside. If your going to jump all in, you need to box up all of your problem areas and label them. If your room ends up being a catch all room you should probably jump all in. Get a lot of boxes and get the items that don’t belong out of there. Also, if you are a jump all in type, it is a good time to paint, re-carpet, put up new lighting. Or at the very least sweep/vacuum.  Make sure the picture of your space is someplace where you can see it. (If paper is your #1 problem, we’ll be talking about it next week)

Organizing 101: Week #2 Brainstorming your dream space.

This week we are going to look over your notes and figure out why these areas of your space hinder your creativity. Now close your eyes and dream about your ideal space. What does it look like? What color is it? Does it have a large table or a desk? It is a large space or a small space? Picture yourself in it. Write down all the aspects of this space. What would make the space more user friendly? How different is your dream space from reality? You want to be jotting down things that you’d like and things that you’d want to change. Don’t worry if you can’t think of a solution, I’ll give you some. One of my things is I wish I had better storage for my ink pads. Maybe something that can stack or that has shelves. Keep them in some order. Would it be better if they weren’t on my desk? Maybe a place in a cabinet?  Or put them in a drawer. Would that help? Don’t worry about costs yet, only think about how you work. But if you have small kids who get into everything, then an open shelving system on the floor is not going to work for you, no matter how pretty it is. If you have room for one small scrap surface, then don't drool over a desktop tool caddy that takes up half the table. If you're a sitting scrapper, don't look into standing-height counters. So as we go along, keep your reality in mind. You CAN have a great, gorgeous space, and on your own terms. We're going to bring the items you covet into your reality with what you already have and own. It CAN be done. So keep this in mind as we go along - I want you to IMMEDIATELY rule out any storage solution that will not work with your lifestyle or your scrap space. No matter how appealing or pretty. Just cross it off. With a big black Sharpie. Next thing is to take a picture of your space. You're going to post this photo and you're going to find that there are others out there much, much worse off than you are. And that will (sadly) boost your spirits. And if you have the absolute worst space, well - you have nowhere to go but up, right? You’ll need the photo in week 10.

Altered Ribbon Holder

{MiX’n It uP} with mommamix Altered Ribbon holder

I bought some new sheets recently and thought the bag they came in needed to be made into something, It had great potential with a zipper and all but what would it’s next purpose be?  Well, I saw on another web site that someone had altered makeup bags from the dollar store to become ribbon holders.  And there was my answer.  This was perfect for a ribbon holder.  You could use any type of plastic bag for this as long as it is sturdy and you can punch holes in it.  This bag is pretty cool because it also has a pocket in the middle were the tag is, so I altered that too.

 Supplies:
  • Any type of bag like a makeup bag or sturdy plastic bag with a zipper
  • Big Bite Crop-a-dile
  • Ribbon
  • Embellishments to decorate the front if you desire or you could just leave it plain.  Since my bag had a pocket I chose to decorate the tag that came in the pocket.

In order to punch your holes in the bag it is best to keep it flat and punch through both layers

Punch holes randomly or in rows.   You can gather up the bag   a little bit to get to the parts you can’t reach.   Once you have your holes you can start putting your ribbon in the bag and pull it out the hole.

If you want to decorate the middle like I did and don’t have a pocket you could use stickers  to embellish it, just be sure if you are decorating the middle that you do it first then you can punch your holes around  it.  If you have any questions let me know.  Hope you try this one it is a great way to organize all your ribbon.
